As noted in the blog schedule post, Scripting Helpers will now be hosting monthly Game Jams for ROBLOX!
Details are still being worked out for how judging will work, but the most important information is that these Game Jams will not feature Robux rewards unless sponsored by a third party. These jams will be mostly-informal competitions to get you all making games, but the more people that participate the better!
Without further ado, the theme of this month's Game Jam is....
a wistful desire to return in thought or in fact to a former time in one's life, to one's home or homeland, or to one's family and friends; a sentimental yearning for the happiness of a former place or time:
a nostalgia for his college days.
something that elicits or displays nostalgia.
ROBLOX is roughly 11 and a half years old! Plenty of you have been here for at least a few of those, and some of us for all of them! This month's theme is meant to show how far ROBLOX has come since its release in April 2006.
What games did you guys play all those years ago? Remake them! Or make homages to the games of olde. Anything that makes you nostalgic is fair game!
Games must be created after this post has been made. And cannot be updated after the deadline for submission has passed.
Updating after submission is not disallowed, but doing it too much can count against you! We want only "finished" games to be submitted.
Using existing code and free models is allowed, but original content is always preferred!
Teams are allowed, but will be judged more critically than submissions by individuals.
The games submitted for this Jam will be judged based on the following four things:
Is the game playable? How much content is there? Are there game-breaking bugs?
It's highly unlikely a straight clone of an old game is going to win this jam. Get creative!
This one should be pretty obvious, but a game that's simply not fun to play isn't gonna win!
Adherence to Theme
What about the game is nostalgic, or represents the nostalgia of its creator? Remember: this Game Jam is about ROBLOX!
One thing we are specifically not judging is code organization and evident skill. As long as the game isn't broken or otherwise unplayable, anything goes!
The best way (for now) to submit your game is to PM me a link to your game on ROBLOX.
You can also @adark in the Scripting Helpers Discord when I'm online!
The deadline for this Game Jam is 11:59PM UTC on Sunday, September 20th, and the winners will be announced on the 25th!
