My opinion

So, with the RPG you will want to have weapons, armour, tools, enemies and saving I assume. Those are quite complex, so I don't recommend starting off with a RPG. You should start with something simpler.

Welcome to Lua

As I believe, you are new to the development side. Everything is tough here, we all have our questions, and that. The one main thing that will help you is the wiki. The wiki provides loads of tutorials, and detail on every function and how to use it, with examples. It even provides a beginner tutorial. This will make the start to your journey. Because you are new to Lua and I recommended not to make an RPG, I probably won't be going over those things.
