Asked by 3 years ago

Hi guys. So I'm gonna start getting into making scripts for games, and i want to know if i should read the 5.1 manual or the 5.3 manual. i know the original RBXLua was based off of 5.1, but things have changed since then. so which one should i read?

You should start with the lua 5.1 manual as it is the latest version that roblox uses. Lua 5.3 works differently and is the last version of lua itself, lua 5.4 was released in june this year.

For example, many functions that exist in lua 5.3 or 5.4 do not exist in lua 5.1.

Note that roblox does not use lua itself but uses luau more info: https://roblox.github.io/luau/ WideSteal321 773 — 3y
