Use LinkedSource to load closed source modules?

Asked by 4 years ago

Hello, since the open sourced assets update was released my stuff had to be open sourced in order to work on other games (script builder genre). I don't know a good way to protect my stuff from being stolen or claimed as other's work. I've found LinkedSource wich is deprecated but interesting, i don't know if this can be used or not to link the source to a not for sale asset. Is this possible?

And why do you want to hide your source code in the first place? In fact, what are the chances of your code even being stolen/even being worth stealing? You're on a slippery slope. You assert that if you do not hide your source code in some way, then someone will steal it and pass it on as their own. However, you have not presented any evidence that suggests that this will in fact happen. There is absolutely no reason for you to make your code closed-source if you have nothing malicious to hide. If you are going to worry about the non-issue of someone stealing your code, look into licensing. Do note that, if someone's use of your code falls under fair use, you cannot do anything about it. Otherwise you can take them to court.

TL;DR there is no reason to hide your code if it is not malicious. This is exactly why LinkedSource scripts were removed/deprecated and why closed-source modules were removed; they did more harm than good by hiding their content which allowed for malicious users to write malicious code to do malicious things. Do you really want to waste time taking legal action against a 12 year old for stealing your code?

It should not be and there is no reason to. I will report you on Roblox since you are trying to make malicious scripts. incapaz 195 — 4y
