Game that I made not showing up on search results??

Asked by 4 years ago

Hi, So I finished my first game for Roblox. I was quite excited and looking forward to seeing if anyone would like the game etc... Unfortunately, when a friend asked the name of the game for his son to try it and I gave it to him, nothing came back even after he searched for the exact name on the search bar: exact spelling with capitals and all.

A few inevitable questions arise. How is this possible? What is the point of making games for this platform if no one can find them? Is this a conscious decision by Roblox (I assume there to be advertising available for a price) or is it genuinely a badly design search engine?

Any input from experience game makers greatly appreciated.

This is a bit off topic but in short Roblox changed how the search works. Its no longer name based only. It takes into account plays and upvotes. There was a post about it on the dev forum... User#5423 17 — 4y

There could be a few reasons this issue occurs, here are some.

Common Name - The name of your game could be highly overused and might be flooded with all the other games with the same name. Try getting your friend to join through your profile!

Place isn't public - Ensure that your game is set to public so that others can join and find it easily. Image

Support - If all else fails to work try to contact ROBLOX support. They most likely will take awhile or won't respond but this will be your best bet/

The Roblox search engine is kind of awful. The current search algorithm needs some adjustments. If you can copy the URL of the game and send it to them, that could work. An alternative way that I do is that I play my game first, and then I favorite it. Then I tell my friends to go to my favorites on my profile and play the game.

Salutations, there could be the main reasons that this is happening.

The game is new.

The game is private.

It could be that you have a common name with much other games.

Hello there! I have had this same problem before! Make sure to do a few things:

o Make sure your game has a lot of plays. My game, at first, did not show on the search because it had no plays. But, as my game has grown, it shows on the search because it is somewhat popular. Try ads or sponsoring to do this. It's worth it, trust me.

o Make sure your game has a unique name. When I named my game "Sword legends", I couldn't find it in search because there were so many games called "Sword legends". Try naming your game with a number or part of your name such as SCP Site 104 or Charlie's parkour

o Make sure the game is set to Public in the games menu. Just click create at the top of the screen and make sure the button below your game is green and says Public. Also, make sure FilteringEnabled is turned on.

These things should help your game on the front page! I hope this helps you. If you have any questions, comment below!

Best,

Of the games accessible from my profile, only one game shows up in Roblox's search results - one that used to be popular (years ago), named "Village Builder" -- but it wasn't even in the first 10 search results. The first result didn't have "Village" or "Builder" in the name of the game, but did have "builders" in the place description. I believe that all the search results are like this. Unlike in a Google search, you can't quote multiple words - Roblox ignores them.

You will need to: * Provide a link directly to the place to your friend * Instruct your friends to find the game on your profile * Use a unique word or combination of words without spaces in your game title or game description - ideally something that, when you search it, no results come up for it. Once you've added the "word" to your game name/description, wait some minutes for the search results to update, and then your game should be searchable. In your case, try putting "Tag: TimesTablesTurfWar" in the place description (the "Tag: " part is so that no one gets confused)
