Is it risky using the teams if your going to have a lot of teams?

Having lots of teams would be very messing as it would be a very long list and could degrade user experience and apply confusion, is it risky? First be more clear about what you mean by risky , if you don't want alot of confusion you should ( depending on what game you are making) make your own team system with GUIs and tables, the teams would be represented by a combination of numbers and words to have enough unique names to support your need of teams, then to reduce confusion only show the player the team he is on or maybe set up a gui with a text box to search for the desired team, but i maybe wrong about this and there might be a better solution ( I hardly have any of these problems because i dont need alot of teams) -- Suggestion : use folders??
