?I don't understand how I can make raycasting smooth

I don't quite understand how other people make ray casting('A straight line that can go to infinity in a millisecond') can go so slow do they make it like an illusion and put wait and make the part go slowly using body velocity? What is the magic behind this? I heard that guns use body velocity but I don't understand how you can parent a body velocity to raycasts
