How would I go about making hit boxes for a player in a fighting game?

I’m trying to make a fighting game and would like to know how to go about creating hit boxes! So far what I have done is made a tool and made a script that makes the player throw a punch when activated. I can get it to do damage from the handle in the tool which is sort of like a hit box, but I can’t get the handle to go anywhere else but the right hand!
