Is there a way for player jump at the direction & initial speed and not change direction in mid-air?

When you jump, you can't change your direction and you jump at whatever initial velocity you took off from. Is there a way to make a player's walkspeed and direction disabled during a jump? It's for my basketball simulation game.

I was thinking of disabling the AutoRotate while in the air but the movement is like walking 'in the air'.
