How do I use an animation for a character upon equipping a gun?

So I am working on a gun, and I made an idle animation for the character when they are holding it. For some reason I can't seem to figure out how to get the player's animation to change upon equipping the gun (inside of the gun's script) Is there a way, or do I have to somehow make a new animation inside of the player's humanoid upon joining?
