When making a custom character, should I nil the .Character property or set it to the custom one?

I don't believe ROBLOX's Humanoid character is fit for my game, so I want to make a custom one. My question is, should I keep the real ROBLOX character nil, (Or otherwise out of the way), or should I set the player's Character property to the new one, having a part named "Torso" for simulation reasons?

As far as I know, best way would be do delete original character, instead of setting it to nil, otherwise players get free camera, just like in studio.

And no, you shouldn't set the new character as player's character, except if you want it to keep classic controls.

I won't be using a Humanoid anywhere in the new character, and I already have a custom camera controller done. Is there any downside to setting the character to something without a humanoid? coplox 0 — 10y

I haven't tried, but I wouldn't do that anyway, because roblox might do some weird stuff to it and cause random, frustrating bugs. ZarsBranchkin 885 — 10y
