What is GlobalDataStore?

I don't understand the wiki page for GlobalDataStore. Usually when this happens I look for tutorials or people having problem with it so that I can learn and get what the wiki is saying and continue reading, but in this case there's nothing other than the wiki page. Can someone briefly explain what GlobalDataStore is, what the difference between GlobalDataStore and data store is, and how it's used?

DataStores

DataStores are a way to save information between servers. They are a very powerful system which allows persistence of data ranging from information about players, to information about whole servers. The application of them is down to what you need to save.

There is no difference between GlobalDataStore and DataStores, because they're both the same. Principally the only difference is the scope supplied whilst getting the DataStore, if at all.
