What is Data.?

I have looked at a lot of scripts and made my own but while looking at a script I saw

data.platform = part
    data.timeout = 0
    data.vehicle = nil

I know what everything else is but I wanted to know, what is data, no where in the script does it do

local data = something any ideas?
