Does anyone know why lasso is being removed and is something going to replace it?

I was looking to use SelectPartLasso on something i'm working on but found in the Wiki API that the item is deprecated. I thought maybe to go for using FloorWire instead but it also is being deprecated. What is going to replace these if anything and if not does anyone know of a scripted replacement?
