I've been learning the syntax since like early 2010. I can understand the code/syntax, but I can never piece it together to do what I want it to do.
It sounds like you don't really have much in-use experience. If you haven't already, look for some uncopylocked games, and analyze how the code works. Or look through free models (tycoon kits work well, especially the base tycoon scripts) and analyze those. The more you see it put together the more your mind will associate the words with the "sentences", per se.
Coding is a lot like by-the-book foreign languages. You can learn the words, but making sentences takes practice, a guide (wiki.ROBLOX, in this case), and time in general.
I'm sure you've heard this before and you're tired of hearing it, but just keep practicing. I started learning the syntax in early 09', but never practiced it enough. I recently stepped up my game about 2 months ago, and am now doing better than I thought I'd ever do.
So, don't feel discouraged in your situation, it's a very common one. This site will help you immensely, the wiki will help you immensely, and most of all, dissection of already created code will help you the most.
Good luck in your code endeavors!
