You can't edit messages but you may be able to send one.
Yea, I know that I can send a message, but I want to send a message like "Wait a moment..." while it's searching something and then edit it with the new information.
You will probably need to create a custom chat, or edit the scripts in the default one. Just run an empty place in the studio, and in-game, copy all of the scripts you find in game.Chat. Stop the game, then paste them back into game.Chat to see and edit them.
You could iterate through all labels in the chat gui and see which one has the text you set it to previously, then update the text for that label, however you're going to have to re-size the label and re-position every other label as well
