when i try this script
print(string.len("hello"))
it just prints five. what does len even do??

It prints five because len returns the number of characters in a string. There are five characters in hello. I would consider looking on the wiki instead of asking here first because you have been posting a lot of questions recently that are answered from the roblox dev site.
