In games such as Boku no Roblox, players are able to use powers that looks extremely extravagant and large scale. I'm assuming is that they use maths to multiply X,Y,Z sizes and their positions and what not, however does this type of scripting cause lag? How do those kind of games achieve such large parts being transformed whilst maintaining good performance?

https://developer.roblox.com/api-reference/class/TweenService I think this may help, cant solve your lag question though but you can test it if anything
Short answer: yes. The lag will not be noticeable but MeshParts involve greater or equal amount of polygons than BaseParts: more processing for the client.
