I really hope that you're trolling dude. It takes no more than a google search to look it up and the concept is as simple as it can be. Try the roblox developer website where they explain in detail:

hes prob a kid how would u know....
variables are anything you want it to be, here are the following:
- letters
- numbers
- returned value from a function
- tables
- bool values (true or false values) etc... if this helped u somewhat click the accept answer below my answer.

I think that Gamerplayer is right although directing a person to a channel with a lot of videos can be confusing. Specifically, try this one from the same channel where he goes in depth about variables: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubJMcbfG1xA .
i adressed to that channel because he got alot of the starter scripting that someone new needs and yadi said he wants to learn so i think that channel would be good to start with
