local messages = {"Killing NPC's will give you coins","Check the leaderboard at spawn!"}
bc = BrickColor.new("Institutional white")
game.StarterGui:SetCore("ChatMakeSystemMessage", {
Text = (math.random(1,#messages));
Font = Enum.Font.Cartoon;
Color = bc.Color;
FontSize = Enum.FontSize.Size96;
})

This doesn't do anything and when I do, print((math.random(1,#messages))), it just prints a number, what to do?

Line 4. You are just getting the random number but not the text. Here is the fix: Text = messages[math.random(1,#messages)]

The [] brackets refer to the index. For eg messages[1] = "Killing NPC's will give you coins"

Thank you! It works.
