How to Sync/Link/Connect/Share data on a game, to a place?

Allow me to elaborate.

What is the system called that you can, for instance, customize a character and edit values and properties and data and whatnot in a GAME, and then have those link to the PLACE that it's connected to, and still retain all of the data.

For example, customizing a character with different hair or skin or stats and whatnot for RPG purposes, and then you load into a place connected to the game and your character is the exact same.
