Find other running instances of the game?

Hi, following my previous post, someone gave me an idea, so I'm going to pursue it.

Part of this idea involves finding other running instances of the game. I'd imagine that you would need to utilize HTTPService, Network, etc. Would it be possible for any of you to guide me through this?

Thanks, Will, and a lot of other people when they stumble upon your solution

Depending on how popular your game is going to be you would either have to do HttpService or DataStore. HttpService is best but you would have to set up your own server. DataStore works, except if servers are being created once every few seconds or created and destroyed at the same time it could mess the DataStore up because every time you save it can wipe anything sent within the past few seconds

If you were to set up your own server at home I suggest you use port forwarding to an Ubuntu computer that has Apache, and Linux. Then you also need to set up maybe a Python or Node.js to receive the POST requests and have it listen to port 80. Then you would have to set up a specific HttpLink to send GetRequests for the ServerIDs.

If you were to do DataStore set up a specific key used on GlobalDataStore and use SetAsync, but if two servers are sending information at the same time it could ignore one's. Then just use GetAsync on the key to get a table of all InstanceIds
