How do I hide the chat box by default?

The chat box gets in the way of my GUI's, but I want players to be able to use the chat box if they open it up themselves so that it doesn't block them from clicking my GUI by default. https://i.gyazo.com/765b9d7edc0a67b1ce8106c86a57475f.jpg

You would have to create a custom chat for you to make it easier to disable and enable the chat on command. Use http://wiki.roblox.com/index.php?title=API:Class/StarterGui/SetCore to see if maybe theres something there that you need

Find the StarterPlayer service, and look for it's child StarterPlayerScripts. Create a new LocalScript in StarterPlayerScripts, with the contents of:

game:GetService("StarterGui"):SetCoreGuiEnabled(Enum.CoreGuiType.Chat, false)

This script will set the Chat GUI to be disabled. To re-enable it, replace the false with a true. Keep in mind that this can only be executed in a LocalScript.

That permanently disables it though; I just want it to hide by default so it doesn't block my GUI by default, and let them open it manually if they want to chat.

You can create a button that re-enables it if you'd like.
