How to make lightning bolts come out of the tip of the handle in my tool?

I just finished making a wand. And I want to know how to let characters shoot lightning bolts out of their wands when the wand is equipped and when they press "L". First of all, I'm not sure if it's possible to have an equipped tool where you can press a key and it'll make something work? Sorry if this doesn't make sense. But I want this wand to be really cool, and have more than one move in it. For example, press the key "L" for lightning to come out, press the key "S" for sparkles to come out, press the key "B" for beams to come out, and so on. Anyone know how to add lightning tho?
