I realize this is a pretty stupid question but I barely know basics of scripting and I want to make a skill tree type script with a gui, is this too advanced for me, should I try, any tips or something like that?

So i would say that there are several ways that you can script this but i think the most effective method would be object-oriented programming this allows you to create an object called skill and use it throughout your program

you can script it, there was this star wars game that had it once. and it would be pretty much a bunch of text/image buttons inside of a frame.

You're going to have to learn the basics before you attempt to make a skill tree. There's a lot you need to know, such as basic syntax, events, special aspects of local scripts, and much more.
