The way that I learned Lua was basically by studying other players scripts, and pretty much by learning from my own mistakes. There are plenty of resources to help though, if that isn't an option for you. Here are few resources you can check out:
This website
Roblox Wiki: http://wiki.roblox.com/index.php?title=Scripting
Youtube (CodeTheorem) : https://www.youtube.com/user/bballer13snTV I used this guys channel alot to help with my scripting
Youtube (Roblox How-To Guides) : https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLuEQ5BB-Z1PJ_m5dMllr35lF4giyuHrY_
Basic Lua (Not RBX.Lua) Lua Website: http://www.lua.org/
I hope this helps you out. These are just a few of the many resources that you can use to get started with lua. Remember, you obviously won't be an expert right away, but don't give up. You'll get the hang of it :P

Well I can't do that, but to improve your scripting, you can do one of these few things a day:
We all want to be great scripters.. don't we? Well, some things I would reccomend you to do is search up scripting tutorials on youtube. Friaza, Pesapod, (I've never watched them, but I hear they help).
Tutorials are a great way of getting started with scripting. On the wiki, they have made many tutorials ranging from newbie to expert. You can get started over here:
http://wiki.roblox.com/index.php?title=AllTutorials
Over here you can see all tutorials, from building to scripting to full game creation.
If you scroll down, you will find the scripting section I would begin at the Beginner section. they are arranged from the easiest to the hardest.
Another thing I would consider is looking at roblox cookbooks.
http://wiki.roblox.com/index.php?title=Cookbook
This is basically, well... a cookbook. I'm thinking of making pasta today, I'll reference the cookbook. I'm thinking of making a ChildAdded/RemoveEvent... I'll reference the cookbook.
Even asking someone in the community chat for a scripting challenge can improve your scripting, and like so, you can reference the cookbook for that too.
#But let me introduce to you, good sir...
##The big book of scripting...
basically, all the tutorials on the wiki are here, or all the articles about things and other things that I cannot define. I challenge you to do them all and become the master scripter.

I'm not sure if it's just me, but "The platform wont follow the script" doesn't make sence?
