How do I make a mesh rig play animations?

I have a rig that can play it's animations in the editor but I don't know how make it play when I'm walking or other stuff like that. The humanoidrootpart has everything inside of it so I don't know if I can make it play like that. Ive already tried to add the animator script in but that didnt work.
