How to get string values using a LOCAL script?

I have a string value, and I need it for my gui. In my gui, its going to tell us who is on top of the leaderboard. But I need a local script to get the value of a string value. I know how to get the value using a server script. How do you get the string value from a local script? Do you need to do anything different, or is all the same? Please help!
