I've seen these two notations when defining a table and their properties.
-- Names and values are arbitrary
local tab = { var = 1 }
-- Names and values are arbitrary
local tab = {}
tab.var = 1
Which way is better when defining a table's properties, and it is just for design, or is there another advantage of it?

The 2nd one might be a nanosecond slower in normal lua, but I think luau optimizes it anyways so no difference in this case, although most people prefer the 1st way for initializing and the 2nd one for adding stuff on the go
I normally use
tab[key] = valueor table.insert() to insert things on table
