Recent Site and Discord Changes

In case you are not aware, we have been releasing some changes to our website and Discord Server. Our goal with these changes it to improve the content provided to the Scripting Helpers community. We will be releasing announcements of changes in our Discord Channel as well. If you're not a member of that I would suggest joining to stay up to date on the latest updates there as well.

Website

Auto Upvoting

One of our updates to the site is giving askers a reputation point each time you answer a question. The reasoning behind this update is if you took the time to answer the question it would be worth an upvote. You can remove the upvote if you wish, however, it is recommended you use the answers section for its intended purpose.

Bad Title Filter

We've seen it time and time again and are now trying to put a stop to them. No more bad titles, or at least we will see fewer of them. A title on Scripting Helpers is something that should be descriptive, something that should relate directly to your problem. If you have question titles saying "Why doesn't this work?", "Will this work?", or "URGENT I NEED HELP PLEASE?" they will now be blocked by our new filtering system. Not only do these questions look bad, but it may also be seen as spam. Some questions may slip through the filter, however, it is our goal to constantly improve this filter to try and prevent bad titles. If you are experiencing issues, let us know so we may adjust it.

Advertisments and Donations

We all know advertisements may be a pain in the neck on some websites and many people download Ad Blockers. Part of our revenue on Scripting Helpers involve the ability to display ads. I'm not here to say "hey turn off your Ad Blocker so we can spam you with ads." Scripting Helpers would never do that. Our ads are unobtrusive to your browsing experience and are hardly even noticeable. However, we will be blocking answers if you continue to use an Ad Blocker.

We are introducing a form of donating to the website. Depending on the amount you are donating you can not only remove advertisements, but you can have custom avatars, get a donor badge, have custom chat color capabilities, and your posting frequency limits are removed (feature automatically waived if you have 40+ reputation). If you want to donate to keep Scripting Helpers up and running, or if you just want to be rid of the ads, head on over to our Patreon Page.

Discord

Linking Your Account

We are trying to keep track of who is registered to our site and who may not be. If you're not in the Discord already you can join at any time with this invite link.

If you are a new member to the discord, you will automatically get a link from our bot to link your Scripting Helpers and Discord account.
If you are a existing member to the discord, you will need to chat the message "!link" to the #welcome text channel.

Either way, you will need to be registered and logged in on the Scripting Helpers website to link your account. Click on the link provided by the Scripting Helpers bot. You should see a message on both the website and the discord saying that you have successfully linked.

Subscriptions

You're now able to subscribe to new questions, answers, blog posts, and moderation votes. These updates will be directly messaged to you if you subscribe to them with the Scripting Helpers bot. Just say "subscribe (questions/answers/blog/moderation)". You can unsubscribe at any time by saying "unsubscribe" and whatever you want to unsubscribe from.

Here at Scripting Helpers, we intend to provide a welcoming environment to all users. We are looking for ways to improve user experience and make the best of your time on our site. If you have any suggestions on what we can improve on or what we could implement to make your time on the website better let us know. Leave a suggestion in the feedback box to the left of every page.

Sincerely,

-The Scripting Helpers Team
